In Present, Thailand pig’s farm prefer foreign breeds which can be divided as the following ;
1.The landrace breed is originally from Denmark which is considered the best bacon in the world. They are fast-growing with a white body throughout. Body and back are quite straight. This breed has a longer body than other breeds. There are more ribs, about 1-2 pairs compared to other breeds. They have large ears and a straight nose with a smooth chin. This breed provides many piglets with good quality of red meat with less fat inserted. They are very popular in Central Thailand.
2.The Largewhite breed is originally from England but in the United States it is called the Yorkshire breed. This breed gives a bacon type that is very fleshy, fast-growing has a whitish color throughout the body with a medium head, perk up ears, and provides many piglets These pigs are easy to feed and adapt to the environment of Thailand very well. They give good quality red meat and lesser fat with perfect streaky pork which is very popular for consumers, they are considered highly in demand for the market..
3.The Duroc breed is originally from the United States. It is a large-scale pig with a thick and deep figure and has a shorter body when compared to the Landrace and Largewhite breed. But they have outstanding big hips, the highlight is its skin color from dark red to red, medium head with droop ears. Even though they do not provide many piglets which have a lot of fat, they are very tolerant to the environment.
At our SJF Farm, pig breeders and fatten pigs are derived from the development of breeds between cross – breed such as Danish breeds and Finnor-Asia etc. We breed and develop the breed to be healthier and stronger and are resistant to disease, easy to grow and suitable for Thailand’s weather.
